VETTING
VETTING
Vetting is a sharing of knowledge, a collaboration between Vetting Committees and exhibitors. It is undertaken to give clarity and confidence to the visitor through the clear labelling of all works of art to confirm the exhibit as genuine and of the age it is stated to be; to confirm that research and due diligence has been carried out to include references to provenance; and to give reference to condition, restorations and alterations.
The Vetting Committee comprises specialists whose expertise has been gained through working in the art world whether as a dealer or gallerist, auctioneer, museum curator, academic, conservator or as an independent consultant. Not only are vetters present on vetting day, where they examine each work of art, but a wider pool of experts support through online virtual vetting.
Additionally, the Art Loss Register (www.artloss.com) check all exhibits at Treasure House Fair against their database of more than 700,000 items that are subject to a claim. The ALR is the world’s largest privately managed dataset of stolen, missing and looted works of art, antiques and collectables. Its database includes items reported as lost or stolen, subject to a dispute or loan, or with other issues. Any object found to be subject to a claim is removed from the Fair.
The opinion of the Treasure House Fair Vetting Committee is given to the best of their knowledge based on the information provided and no member of the Vetting Committee, nor Treasure House Fair Limited shall be liable for any direct or indirect loss. Images of works of art contained in publicity material, including the Treasure House Fair's website, or used on social media may not have been reviewed and are illustrative only.
We are devoted to making Treasure House Fair as safe as possible for our visitors, exhibitors and staff by adhering to the highest standards of health and safety.
