Somlo London was established in 1977 by George Somlo and it remains, to this day, a family business. As a young boy, George would frequent the markets and fairs of the UK with his father, sourcing rare antiques, jewellery, and most importantly pocket watches. This fostered a love of antique watches which inspired George to open Somlo London. Together with his wife Sandi, they started a business which specialised in antique pocket watches and vintage wristwatches in Mayfair. Before long, George’s keen eye for historically important horology, coupled with Sandi’s exceptional talents for sourcing rare and unique jewellery watches gave them a reputation as one of the finest watch dealers in London. The next great milestone was in 2008 when OMEGA approached Somlo to collaborate on the first and only official OMEGA vintage store. Moving to its current location in London’s prestigious Burlington Arcade, Somlo was one of the first dealers of its kind to be selling a large range of vintage OMEGA wristwatches alongside the long established ‘collector’s brands’ such as Patek Philippe, Cartier and Vacheron & Constantin. This has no doubt contributed to vintage OMEGA watches becoming some of the most coveted pieces by collectors in the world of watches. This relationship was strengthened with George and Sandi’s son joining the business in 2016. Daniel Somlo had grown up surrounded by watches. A qualified OMEGA watchmaker prior to joining the business full time, he brought with him a knowledge of watch mechanics and an affinity with the new generation of watch collector. Specialising in vintage OMEGA Speedmasters, Daniel is considered an authority on these rare pieces and has helped curate many vintage OMEGA collections.
