Description

Koopman Rare Art is one of the world’s leading dealers specialising in antique silver, gold boxes, and jewellery. Founded by brothers Jacques and Eddy Koopman in 1952, the gallery has been under the directorship of Lewis Smith and Timo Koopman for that last thirty years and today holds the same strong focus on dealing with the best quality works of art by the most renowned silversmiths and finest craftsmen. As London’s pre-eminent antique silver dealers, Koopman Rare Art has been instrumental in the formation of some of the most celebrated collections of antique silver in the world, including those of HE MM Al Tajir, the collection of the AH Whitely Trust (now housed in various museums), and the private collection of the late Kerry Packer, Australia. In addition, they have dealt with many of the most important silver objects in existance, such as, the famous Shield of Achilles, The Lequesne Coffee Pot and the Turtle Soup Tureen both by Paul De Lamerie, as well as the magnificent De Lamerie Maynard Dish which now part of the Cahn collection. They have held many prominent exhibitions, namely Art in Industry: The Silver of Paul Storr, such as the Paul Storr, 2015 – the first exhibition solely devoted to the life’s work and legacy of the Royal Silversmith Paul Storr. They continue to collaborate with major institutions globally and have both sold to and arranged loans of important antique silver to (leading) museums, such as The Metropolitan Museum New York, The Victoria & Albert Museum London, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Ashmolean Oxford and The St Louis Art Museum, to name just a few. Koopman Rare Art have a wide international client base and have been associated with collectors in the Americas, Asia and Europe for over 40 years. They also participate in large-scale annual antique fairs across the world, including Masterpiece London, TEFAF Maastricht, Fine Art Asia Hong Kong, and The Winter Show New York. Here at Koopman Rare Art, we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful objects in the world. To be able to share such treasures adds to our joy of temporary ownership.
